Cynthia Attends Oral Arguments in Appeal of Lynne Stewart's Conviction

01/29/2008 - 14:00
01/29/2008 - 15:00

USDC
500 Pearl Street
9th Floor North Ceremonial Courtroom
New York, NY
Oral arguments for the appeal.

Human rights attorney Lynne Stewart was falsely accused of helping terrorists. On Tuesday, April 9, 2002, she was arrested and agents searched her Manhattan law office. She was convicted and faces 30 years in prison. She is the only person ever convicted under the U.S. PATRIOT Act.

This is an obvious attempt by the U.S. government to silence dissent, curtail a vigorous defense for those accused of terrorism, and instill fear in those who would fight against the U.S. government's racism, seek to help Arabs and Muslims being prosecuted for free speech and defend the rights of all oppressed people.

The 2d Circuit has adjourned oral argument until January 29, 2008, at 2 p.m. The reason is that the law clerks need to be cleared to review the materials the Court last week ordered produced with respect to the government's ex parte submissions regarding FISA and NSA.

Courage Under Fire: Cynthia McKinney’s Big Issue - 9/11 Truth

A constant thorn in the US government’ side, controversial former congresswoman Cynthia Mckinney tells Helena Drakakis why the authorities have been revealed as ‘huge liars’

Cynthia McKinney hates the word ‘conspiracy’. As a former democrat and congresswoman she is never more than one step away from controversy, and she’s in London to promote the 9/11 Truth Movement, an organisation which disputes the official version of the Twin Towers attacks in 2001.

“I am just asking for the truth,” she says as she carefully files her nails on the kitchen table of a west London flat. “I am not into conspiracy, but there has been no independent commission over the events of that day. There are explanations that don’t explain and conclusions that don’t conclude. I just want people to demand the truth.”

Whatever accusations have been levelled at McKinney (and there are many), no one could deny that she is determined. Not acting that way would betray her heritage, she says.

Where is the $2.3 trillion of misplaced Pentagon money?

rumsfeld_falters_small.png

In this important clip from the archives, Ms. McKinney, as a member of the House Armed Services Committee for the 108th Congress, questions Don Rumsfeld, former Defense Secretary, Tina Jonas, Comptroller for the Department of Defense and General Richard Myers, then Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Congresswoman had three questions for the panel in these hearings on the FY2006 Defense Appropriations bill.

She began by asking about the Pentagon's continued contracting with private firms who spent public funds in the sex slave-trade. She also asked when the billions of dollars being spent on computer networking at the Pentagon would yield the promised ability to account for $2.3 trillion of taxpayer money appropriated to the Pentagon which the DoD Comptroller's reports indicate the Defense Department can not account for.

Finally she asked a series of questions fielded by General Myers related to the four war games which the Armed Forces were conducting on September 11th, 2001 and the impact they may have had on the ability of the military to respond to the attacks of that day. The clip runs nine minutes. The attachments are the written correspondence on the matter.

The film, American Blackout touches on these issues and how the questions Ms. McKinney insisted on raising in her role as a Member of Congress made her a target.
