This morning, Cynthia was interviewed by Aimee Allison, who in 2006 took 47% as the Green Party candidate for the Oakland City Council and recently published her book on counter recruitment organizing called "An Army of None". The segment covering Ms. McKinney's inteview covers the last thirty minutes of this two hour program.
Cynthia is in California as a part of a tour hosted by the Run Cynthia Run Ad-hoc Committee which is seeking to entice her as a candidate for the Green Party. McKinney spoke of feeling torn between the call to public service as a candidate for President and her long postponed personal goal of completing her Doctoral studies at UC Berkeley.
Responding to a question about Ohio Congressman and Democrat candidate for U.S. President, Dennis Kucinich, she spoke of the flaws of the two party system and the need for fundamental change to the political structure of America. She named the Democrats as 'complicit' and 'aiding and abetting' 'war crimes'.
Responding to the first caller McKinney refuted what she called the 'urban myth' that the Green Party's participation somehow spoiled the 2000 Presidential election. She turned the focus back onto the Republican theft of that election made possible with the complicity of the Gore Campaign which refused stand up for and defend the voter's choice.
Ms. McKinney spoke of needing to end this 'endless war'. She said given the 'war party and the money party', it was time we built a 'People's Party' fueled by a 'progressive coalition'.
Asked by Allison if the Green Party is the way to go: McKinney spoke of the dedicated and pioneering efforts of the Green Party for ballot access in repressive states like Georgia and others across the country.
McKinney closed by saying it would be wonderful if she didn't have to chose between getting her PhD and running for office and that maybe she could find a way to do both.
